To celebrate London Design Festival 2011, Dainow&Dainow have selected the best work of London’s most recent graduates and are placing it alongside the work of established talents in a unique exhibition, ‘Imagined Cities’.
Curated by Dainow&Dainow founder and design entrepreneur Adam Dainow, the exhibition highlights some of the diverse challenges facing highly urbanised, metropolitan cities today.
‘Imagined Cities’ features the work of acclaimed architecture graduate, Catrina Stewart, whose eccentric project ‘The London Farmhouse’ considers how increasing urban populations and waste can be used to positive effect. By integrating agriculture into inner city housing, Stewart proposes how urban communities might eliminate waste and become self-sufficient, using faeces, electric eels and fruit, among other resources, to power urban London communities. “Catrina Stewart’s works are some of the most original and strikingly beautiful drawings I have seen”, says Adam Dainow. “I am delighted to showcase her work in this new exhibition.”
Dainow&Dainow are a new gallery specialising in selling limited edition prints of original architectural drawings. Founded by design entrepreneur, Adam Dainow, Dainow&Dainow seeks to offer talented architects and designers a platform from which to raise their personal profile, while providing the public an opportunity to access innovative and collectable artworks. In addition to their permanent online gallery at www.dainowanddainow.com, Dainow&Dainow exhibit in temporary locations across London.
Catrina Stewart recently completed her Masters in Architecture with Distinction from The Bartlett, University College London. She has exhibited at Candid Arts Centre, London, and her work has been published by Architectural Review and Dezeen. To view more of her work visit www.catrinastewart.com
